4-H is a national positive youth development program that aims to empower young people with the skills and knowledge they need to become responsible, engaged, and contributing members of their communities. The program focuses on developing leadership, citizenship, and life skills through a variety of hands-on learning experiences. The name "4-H" stands for "Head, Heart, Hands, and Health," which represent the four areas of youth development that the program aims to promote. The program is open to youth and offers a wide range of activities and programs in areas such as agriculture, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), healthy living, and civic engagement. 4-H strives to find what “sparks” a youth’s interest and through that “spark” youth develop important life skills, all while having fun.
MET’s 4-H Equine & Agriculture Program is a great way for young people to develop a range of skills, from riding and horse care to leadership and community service. It also connects them with a community of peers who share their interest in horses and ponies.
Youth living in Nassau and Suffolk County ranging from Kindergarten through the twelfth grade are eligible to participate in this program. Students are not required to own a horse nor are they required to have any past equine or agriculture exposure.
