Individuals along with their families of families of veterans, active duty service members, military-connected individuals, and Gold Star families, particularly those from urban environments, may have limited experience or comfort with outdoor activities, especially equine programs. MET’s Horses of Honor Equine Program provides a solution to these challenges with the following opportunities which take place in Connetquot State Park, Caumsett State Park, and Bethpage State Park:
Horsemanship: Start with our simple, non-riding activities such as grooming and groundwork, allowing participants to build comfort with horses before progressing to riding.
Mounted Sessions: Join us for our beginner individual riding sessions that introduce participants to this outdoor recreation activity at their own pace.
Group Workshops, Retreats and Events: We host various programs in a group settings that may offer riding, horsemanship, leadership or therapeutic activities for our participants to enjoy and acclimate to within these beautiful parks.
MET’s Horses of Honor Equine Program has been funded by the State of New York for the upcoming year, providing essential financial support to accommodate these services. This funding demonstrates the strong commitment to honoring those who are and have graciously served our country. To ensure the program's longevity beyond the initial funding period, donations are vital. Contributions will help sustain and expand the program, allowing even more service members to benefit from the healing power of MET’s Horses of Honor Equine Program in the future.
