Riding Instructor

Locations: Rock Creek Park Horse Center – Washington, DC   

Position Overview We are seeking enthusiastic, professional, and safety-minded Riding Instructors to join our growing team in Washington, DC. The ideal candidates will have a strong teaching background, solid horsemanship skills, and the ability to work with riders ranging from beginners to advanced levels. Instructors will deliver quality lessons that emphasize safety, skill development, and a positive riding experience.
Key Responsibilities
  • Teach group and private riding lessons to youth and adults of various skill levels.
  • Create and implement lesson plans that align with organizational standards.
  • Ensure rider safety and proper use of tack and equipment.
  • Assist in horse selection, tack fitting, and warm-up/cool-down routines.
  • Provide riders with feedback to improve skills and build confidence.
  • Maintain a professional and welcoming environment for students and families.
  • Assist with clinics, shows, and special events as needed.
  • Collaborate with barn staff to ensure horses are well-prepared for lessons.
Qualifications
  • Prior riding instruction experience required (USEF, USHJA, USDF, USEA, CHA, IEA, IHSA, PATH, etc. a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of English riding disciplines (hunt seat, dressage, or western).
  • Ability to teach riders of varying ages and abilities, including entry-level participants.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety and horse welfare.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and special events.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
Work Schedule
  • Part-time or full-time opportunities available.
  • Weekend availability required.

Therapeutic Riding Program Instructor

Location: Metropolitan Equestrian @ Rock Creek Park Horse Center – Washington, D.C.

Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Therapeutic Riding Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with riders of all abilities and be dedicated to providing safe, engaging, and empowering equine-assisted experiences.
Key Responsibilities
  • Instruct therapeutic riding lessons for children and adults with varying physical, cognitive, and emotional abilities.
  • Develop individualized lesson plans and riding goals tailored to each participant.
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of riders, volunteers, and horses during all sessions.
  • Collaborate with program staff, volunteers, and families to support rider progress and engagement.
  • Assist with tack fitting, horse preparation, and stable management when needed.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and community outreach initiatives.
Qualifications
  • PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in therapeutic or traditional riding programs.
  • Strong horsemanship skills and understanding of equine behavior and safety.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with patience and empathy.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must pass a background check prior to hire.
Work Schedule
  • Flexible scheduling options: Weekday and weekend availability preferred.
  • Opportunities available for both Part-Time and Full-Time positions.

Horse Groom

Location: Rock Creek Park Horse Center – Washington, DC   

Position Overview We are seeking a reliable, hard-working, and detail-oriented Horse Groom to join our team in Washington, DC and Central Islip, NY. The ideal candidate will have prior experience handling horses, a strong work ethic, and a passion for equine care. This role is essential in ensuring the daily health, cleanliness, and well-being of our horses.
Key Responsibilities
  • Groom, bathe, and care for horses on a daily basis.
  • Feed and water horses according to established schedules.
  • Clean stalls, paddocks, and barn areas.
  • Tack up horses for lessons, training, and events.
  • Check horses for injuries, illness, or other health concerns, and report to the Barn Manager.
  • Assist with farrier, veterinary, and other routine equine care appointments.
  • Maintain grooming tools, tack, and equipment in clean working condition.
  • Support barn staff and instructors with horse handling for riders and events.
Qualifications
  • Previous horse handling and grooming experience required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Knowledge of basic horse health, tack, and equipment care.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Physically able to lift 50 lbs. and perform manual labor.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to horse welfare.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Work Schedule
  • Full-time or part-time positions available.
  • Weekend and holiday shifts required.
