Equine Education & Workforce Programs

At Metropolitan Equestrian, we believe horses are more than a sport—they are a powerful gateway to education, workforce development, and lifelong skills.

Our Equine Education & Workforce Programs are designed to introduce individuals and groups to the equine industry through non mounted, structured, hands-on learning experiences that build confidence, responsibility, and real-world knowledge. Whether participants are exploring horses for the first time or looking to deepen their understanding of equine care and management, our programs provide meaningful, purpose-driven engagement both in and out of the barn.

Serving homeschool families, schools, colleges, and community organizations, these programs are intentionally built to align with educational enrichment, career exploration, and experiential learning outcomes. From foundational horsemanship to literacy-based learning, participants leave with skills that extend far beyond the barn—developing discipline, communication, problem-solving, and an appreciation for agriculture and animal care industries.

Ground Horsemanship Programs

Our Ground Horsemanship Programs provide a comprehensive introduction to working with horses—no riding required.

Participants learn essential skills such as:

  • Safe horse handling and leading

  • Grooming and daily care routines

  • Tack identification and use

  • Feeding, stall management, and barn operations

These programs are ideal for individuals who are new to horses, as well as those interested in exploring equine-related career pathways. By focusing on groundwork and horse care, participants gain a strong foundation in equine management while building confidence and practical skills that are critical across the industry.

Horse Powered Reading

Horse Powered Reading is an innovative, equine-assisted literacy program that combines reading development with hands-on, experiential learning.

Grounded in a nationally recognized model, the program integrates academic reading skills with social-emotional learning—allowing participants to experience reading in a way that engages the mind, body, and emotions.

Rather than learning in a traditional classroom setting, participants work with horses from the ground, using guided activities that bring reading concepts to life. Through this process, abstract skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency become tangible and easier to understand.

Horses play a unique role in the learning experience. Their ability to respond to human behavior and emotion creates an environment where participants receive immediate, non-judgmental feedback. This helps build confidence, focus, and engagement—especially for individuals who may struggle in conventional academic settings.

Each session is designed to:

  • Strengthen core reading skills including phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension

  • Support confidence, communication, and critical thinking

  • Encourage problem-solving through hands-on interaction and guided discovery

By combining literacy with real-world, experiential learning, Horse Powered Reading transforms the learning process into something active, meaningful, and memorable.

Group Experiences (Homeschool, Schools, Colleges)

We offer customized group experiences tailored to meet the needs of homeschool groups, K–12 schools, colleges, and community-based organizations.

These programs can be designed around:

  • Educational enrichment and field trips

  • Career exploration in equine and agricultural industries

  • Team-building and leadership development

  • Workforce training and introductory vocational skills

Each group experience is structured to provide meaningful interaction with horses while aligning with the goals of the participating organization. Whether visiting for a single session or participating in an extended program, groups gain a unique, hands-on experience that blends education, engagement, and real-world exposure.
