At MET, all of our programs are catch-riding style, which means that a rider may not have experience with any given horse before competing. Catch-riding presents a unique challenge, as no two horses are alike. We believe that the ability to quickly gain one’s footing with an unfamiliar horse is a crucial skill for equestrians of all levels.

Various MET Teams compete as part of the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) and the Athletic Equestrian League (AEL).

Learn more about the IEA here.

Learn more about the AEL here.

Riders may apply to be a part of one team or multiple teams.

Hunt seat is a style of forward seat riding. It is one of the two classic forms of English riding, along with dressage. Hunt seat competitions judge the rider's ability both on the flat and over fences. Hunt seat equitation is available to fourth through twelfth graders in our IEA flat only, cross rail, 2', and 2'6 groups and to third through twelfth grade in our AEL flat and over fences groups. Each group provides different levels of riding tailored to suit each individual rider.

Our education programs are truly unique. Each one of our riders not only have hands-on experience with the horses, but they also have an online curriculum through Google classroom every week that must be completed in order to follow the tasks that take place in the team practice, of which some of this is provided by EquestrianCoach.com. Through Google Classroom, students can engage in conversations among their peers and coaches to discuss what they have learned through the videos and other curriculum prior to mounting. Utilizing technology based visual learning tools opens the door to a wealth of knowledge provided by some of the best riders, coaches and industry professionals the world has to offer. This source of education provides a library of hundreds of instructional videos. The core instruction on the site follows the principles of the American Hunter/Jumper Forward Riding System and will benefit those in any jumping discipline at any level. Additionally, EquestrianCoach also provides the best from Dressage, Eventing, and Western Reining Olympians and World Champions, not to mention top veterinarians, farriers, judges, course designers, sports psychologists and a wide array of accomplished equestrian specialists with years of expertise. In addition to equestrian related education curriculum, students from our organization also participate in the Alternative Learning Program (ALP). ALP is focused on STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), Career Development, Financial Literacy, Creative Thinking, Literature, and more. All of which are incorporated into the caveat of Horses. Overall, MET promotes Academics and Horsemanship, by introducing representatives from Colleges, Universities, Corporations, and various Industry Advisors to our students.
